Keeping your horse hydrated and healthy during the winter months can be complex. It’s hard to leave water out for your horse to drink when temperatures are dipping below freezing. At Bar Bar A Horsedrinker, we have found the solution to keep your horse hydrated.
Your horse should be drinking a milliliter per pound per hour. For an average sized horse that amounts to about 6-10 gallons per day. During the winter months, your horse will most likely eat more to create more heat and energy. Therefore, they’ll need to drink more water. If your horse is not drinking enough on a daily basis, it may cause a slurry within the colon that causes an impaction and cause dehydration. As a horse owner, you may increase salt in their food in order to get them to drink more.
During the Winter, Bar Bar A Horse Drinker will hold and store enough water for your horse to be hydrated, so you never have to worry about the water freezing.

Is this product good for Canadian winter. What temperature is it rated for? And is anyone selling them in Canada?
horsedrinker says
This product is suitable for waterlines that are buried to 6 feet.
Kent Porter says
At subzero temperatures it seems the nose of a horse could freeze on the metal of the paddle. How is that not a problem?
David Anderson says
The paddle is made of aluminum and does not carry the freezing problems of steel. Thank you for your question.
Bill Goulding says
We often have wind chill at -30 degrees F and the waterers will be exposed to it. Will the bowl freeze before the water can drain?
David Anderson says
Wind chill does not effect frost lines and it will not affect the drainage. This is due to the fact that the water comes up a much warmer temperature and is only in the bowl for about 15 seconds. Good question. Thanks.

Do you have any examples of someone who uses this for a boarding facility? Can 5-10 horses in a paddock share one?
David Anderson says
Yes, we have a number of boarding facilities that use these. Up to 25 head can share them. You can call 800-451-2230 for specific questions about this. Thanks.

I have 5 horses on 1 in a dry lot

We get temps at 30 below. Will this unit freeze at those temperature?
David Anderson says
If you bury your water lines 6 feet or less this product will work for you. 7 feet and greater you would need some electric tape during a few weeks of winter. Thanks.
