We love showing our horses love all year round, but that doesn’t mean you don’t look for special ways to show your horse love on Valentine’s Day, too! On a holiday that’s dedicated to love of all sorts, even though romantic love is the most heavily highlighted, of course we want to to give our horse love on Valentine’s Day, and hunt for ways we can highlight it. Your horse may not understand the concept of Valentine’s Day, but they definitely understand thoughtful gestures designed to make them feel loved and appreciated.
Here are some cute ways to show your horse love on Valentine’s Day that will leave the both of you with an extra fondness for each other.
#1. Spend Some Extra Time Grooming Them
Many horses love being groomed, so if your pon falls in this category, you can show your horse love on Valentine’s Day by spending some extra time grooming them. You can either get to the stables earlier than normal to really take your time grooming them before your ride, or stay longer to spend more time grooming them after. You don’t need to go on a ride to have an excuse to groom them. You can groom them simply because they enjoy it. You may even bust out a braiding tutorial and put fun and creative braids through their mane and their tail.
#2. Spend Some Extra Time With Them In General
Maybe your horse doesn’t really like to be groomed, or maybe you have the time to just hang out with them for longer than usual. Horses hang out by just being around each other after all, so if you have the time to just hang out in their stall or pasture with them and give them some extra cuddles and kisses, this could be the perfect way to show your horse love on Valentine’s Day.
#3. Let Them Do Something They Love
Does your horse adore hitting the trails? Maybe your horse prefers being allowed to gallop at full speed out in a field? Or perhaps your horse’s idea of the perfect, fun ride is one where all you do is take a walk around the arena? Or conversely, maybe they eye those jumps out in the jump field and would like nothing better than a good jump session? Show your horse love on Valentine’s Day by letting them do something that they love on your ride together.
Chances are, if your horse is having a blast, you will too, and nothing makes you feel more appreciated like being allowed to do what you enjoy the most.
#4. Give Them Something Nice
Horses may not like chocolates or roses, but they absolutely adore treats. A fantastic way to show your horse love on Valentine’s Day is to give them a treat they’re sure to enjoy. Chances are, you’ll know what your horse prefers. Some horses love nothing better than a fresh peppermint while others spit them out as soon as they taste them. The surest way to your horse’s heart is with some of their favorite treats. You may even consider making them something, like a molasses horse treat, to bring to the stables with you on Valentine’s Day.
#5. Have A Photoshoot
Pictures are memories captured in frames, and can be a wonderful way to show your horse off and have pictures around so you can always see them even if you’re not at the stables. If your horse hates having their picture taken, maybe a good way to show your horse love on Valentine’s Day is to put the phone away and not take any pictures of them at all. But if your horse likes pictures or doesn’t care either way, having a photoshoot to show them off and get cute pictures to look back on can be a great way to show your horse love on Valentine’s Day.
#6. Give Them Time Off
Some horses love to work, while others would best like it if you showed your horse love on Valentine’s Day by leaving them alone to their own devices. So long as said own devices won’t mean trouble, your horse may feel more loved if you give them the day to themselves out in the pasture and don’t bug them.
